The All Saints Community Service and Development Corporation (ASCSDC) provides needed human services to children and families who live in public housing on the West Side neighborhood of Hoboken. We opened the Jubilee Center, a new 9,000 square foot facility across the street from Hoboken's public housing projects in April 2003. This Center is the only space in the public housing neighborhood that offers programs geared to that community, and offers a year- round program for 72 children from K-6th grade.
The Jubilee Center currently provides:
1) A safe haven for children from the streets in their own neighborhood while their parents are at work or seeking employment,
2) Academic support and homework help through the Jubilee After School Program
3) Positive recreational activities
4) An arts curriculum encouraging creative self expression, cooperation, and self esteem
5) We provide young people with a snack and full evening meal every weekday and serve more than 500 meals each week during the summer months.
6) The Jubilee Summer Program runs every weekday for seven weeks and features workshops led by professional artists as well as other positive recreational activities such as field trips, swimming, crafts, and games.
By continuing to work with the same base of children year round, our staff’s familiarity with the challenges each child faces will deepen, as will their ability to assist them. It is our hope that by making a seven year, year-round commitment to all of the children enrolled in our program that we will be able to help provide them with a solid, academic base during their elementary school years to prepare them for junior high and high school. Further, by continuing an academic focus during the summer, we will give our children extra preparation time to meet the educational challenges they will face during the upcoming school year.
