Music at All Saints

Music at All Saints Episcopal Parish consists of several elements which provide support for liturgical functions in the church as well as support to the community of Hoboken. These elements are the Adult Choir, the Healing Choir and the students of All Saints Episcopal Day School and the All Saints Abbott Program.

The Adult Choir sings at the 11:15 AM Sunday service. The choir consists of eleven members, two of whom are paid professional singers. The function of the choir is to lead and strengthen the singing of the congregation. The Adult Choir also sings at the community services for Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Evensong services during the seasons of Lent and Advent, and the Great Vigil of Easter.

Children and Music

The Healing Choir is a combined choir drawing children from All Saints Day School, the Hoboken Charter School and Stevens Cooperative School. Its goal is to provide comfort and hope through music to those in need of spiritual or physical healing. To that end the choir’s first performance was at the chapel in St. Mary’s Hospital where the children sang to the patients in the hospital through closed-circuit television. The choir is co-directed by Joshua Mauldin of All Saints and Maureen Aryeetey of the Charter School.

This music that you are listening to (be sure your speakers are on) is the Hymn "Too Often God Your Name is Used" as sung by the All Saints Choir. This hymn was commissioned by the congregation to honor The Rev. Geoffrey Curtiss on his 25th anniversary as the Rector. The hymn tune is named "Curtiss" in his honor. Words are by Thomas H. Troeger; composed by K. Lee Scott; copyright Oxford University Press 2004.
